Best xbox 360 rpg out so far?

Hey im wondering what you guys think is the best rpg for the xbox 360 so far.



I want a game that has LOTS of gameplay (i need something to do over the summer)



games im NOT! looking for:

Tales of Vesperia-A 40 to 50 hour JRPG with a middling storyline but with a likable protagonist

other JRPGs include NIER (rather untraditional; has a Jack Skellington allegory in the party along with an intersexed individual; around 30 hours), Blue Dragon (just a traditional JRPG with no bells and whistles 40 hours), Lost Odyssey has a fairly decent story and should be cheap to pick up.



Non-JRPGs include sci-fi epics Mass Effect 1 and 2 (data is uploaded between them). Fantastic dialogue and an intuitive combat system are huge plusses; however, it comes courtesy of bioware, the same company that put out Dragon Age, so tread lightly. Mass effect 1 is 25-40 hours, 2 in the same range



The biggest RPG is probably Elder Scrolls Oblivion (customize your own character). However, it too is developed by a company that has your enmity: Bethesda Softworks of fallout fame. I cannot assign how many hours, but it can run into the hundreds easily.



Final Fantasy 13 has an incarnation on the xbox360. It is the most linear of all these with no sidequests (save for monster slaying) and heavy (some would say hammy) cutscenes. The cutscenes themselves are a good 1/4 to 1/3 of the 50 hour game. You might want to rent this one to see if it's your bag.



Resonance of fate is a modern-day RPG in which guns are the primary weapons. The game takes some getting used to, but Tri-Ace can always be counted on for a great battle interface. The battles are a mix of max-payne esque bullet time, floating matrix acrobatics, and pseudo-realtime. Great fun and a decent challenge; it could run 40 hours if you take your time, 30 if you rush.



Avoid like the plague: Star Ocean till the end of time and enchanted arms. The former for its screeching, horrid, asinine characters and the latter because it is the very definition of mediocre.



There are also a couple fun albeit short RPGs (10-20) hours called Penny Arcade on the rain slick precipice of darkness. Good for a laugh if you've read any of the strips and are into that sort of thing.



There are also a couple Pseudo-RPGs in the arcade; puzzle quest and castlevania symphony of the night (a puzzle rpg fusion and an 2d action rpg blend). Neither are particularly long, but both are great fun.
